Swiss Post fulfils its basic service mandate, thus providing a modern and efficient public service in Switzerland. It provides the economy and the general public with a nationwide post office network and forwards consignments at uniform prices to the most remote regions of Switzerland. This high-quality basic service is primarily financed by means of a monopoly on letters up to 50 g.

Market deregulation in Switzerland

In summer 2008 the interested parties and associations gave their opinions on the consultation draft, and in May 2009 the Federal Council forwarded the revised law to Parliament. The Council of States discussed the law in its 2009 winter session. The responsible Commission in the National Council addressed the topic in spring and summer 2010.
