Swiss Post has decided on three strategic thrusts in the fields of electronic networking and data management. One is concerned with digital signatures and identity, the other two with document solutions and electronic cash flow management. Swiss Post is also involved in the field of electronic healthcare services, providing innovative information technology services.

As a citizen-centred and neutral company, Swiss Post enjoys a high level of trust. Its products SwissPostCertificate (proof of identity) and IncaMail (encrypted information transfer) ensure that data traffic is secure and verifiable, thus meeting data protection requirements. With its nationwide presence and post office network, Swiss Post makes a significant contribution to bridging the gap between the physical and digital worlds. Citizens can order criminal records extracts at post offices and have their identities verified by the counter staff, for example. Swiss Post creates the extracts electronically, reducing the processing time, and the Federal Office of Justice sends the documents to the customers’ home addresses by post.

Secure data traffic and digital identity

The electronic transfer of information and documents in the eGovernment field is subject to stringent conditions. Data protection must be guaranteed; no unauthorized third persons must be able to view documents. Senders and recipients must also be clearly identifiable.

Swiss Post’s IncaMail platform ensures a verifiable and secure electronic exchange of data. In a process similar to sending a registered letter, IncaMail allows users to send e-mails securely, easily and verifiably, without needing to install any additional software.

Moreover, Swiss Post offers an electronic identity and a digital signature facility with its SuisseID. SuisseID is the first standardized product in Switzerland for electronic proof of identity. Users can authenticate their identity securely online and affix a legally binding electronic signature to documents. In conjunction with IncaMail, documents with a legally valid signature affixed via Swiss Post’s SuisseID can be encrypted and dispatched with confirmation of mailing and receipt.

Electronic payment transactions

Yellowbill from Swiss Post enables bills to be sent electronically from the issuer to the recipient. The recipient can then process the electronic data directly. The bills are signed digitally and comply with legal requirements. Yellowbill enables media discontinuities to be avoided, billing and payment processes to be optimized and costs to be reduced.

YellowpayAdmin is quick and easy, allowing public authorities to accept payment for their services via the Internet. PostFinance also offers a range of innovative accounts receivable/payable facilities which are accessible in various ways, for example via the H-Net electronic healthcare network.

Document management

Swiss Post has extensive experience in producing and managing physical and digital documents. In Europe and the English-speaking world, it is an established provider of services such as internal mail solutions, document digitization, integration of digitized documents into electronic work processes and electronic archiving of these documents – all of which make accessing information quicker and easier.

Swiss Post is able to use this experience to digitize and archive documents in the eGovernment field. Thanks to encryption technologies, documents can be sent securely and verifiably. Each stage in the processing of a document can be recorded and the persons processing it securely identified via SuisseID – from the moment a document is first produced to the time when it is archived, making document management processes faster and more efficient.
