Swiss Post employees are highly committed

Press release dated 05.08.2010

Swiss Post employees remain very highly committed. This is indicated by the results of the 2010 employee survey. The ratings for «work situation», «customer focus» and «employee satisfaction» remained at a high level. «Strategy» and «employment conditions» received a lower rating, as was the case in the previous year. The results are based on a record participation rate of 75 percent of the employees surveyed.

Employees continue to demonstrate a high level of commitment to Swiss Post. With 83 out of a maximum of 100 points, the «commitment» index achieved the same rating as in the previous year. This consists of the questions on «identification» (80 points), «staff turnover» (81 points) and «willingness to perform» (87 points). The rating of 74 points for «employee satisfaction» is one point lower than in 2009. It therefore remains at a high level in comparison with other companies.

Ratings stable from an overall Group perspective

In commitment as well as in other consolidated results at Group level, there are very few changes – if any – in comparison with the previous year. Thus the ratings for «customer focus» (78 points), «work situation» (75 points) and «unit fitness» (71 points) remained unchanged. The «work situation» is derived from questions on work content, processes, workload and working conditions, while «unit fitness» comprises topics such as strategy, communication, innovation and further development, which are influenced by the management of the respective unit.

«Strategy» and «employment conditions» have lower ratings

As was the case in the previous year, the topics of «strategy» (64 points) and «employment conditions» (65 points) received lower ratings. At 71 points, the «workload» has remained stable at a medium level. The postal workers’ attitude towards their work content has not changed: with 81 points, employees rated their work as useful and varied. According to the survey model, ratings between 60 and 74 points represent a medium positive evaluation, and ratings between 75 and 84 points represent a high positive evaluation.

Stable evaluation within group units

All group units have achieved stable ratings on a high level (see table below). Certain differences between the units have remained nearly the same when compared with the previous year. The survey, which was carried out among approximately 50,000 employees in 16 countries and in 8 languages, achieved a record response rate of 75 percent. The high participation rate supports these results and indicates that the employee survey is well accepted. Swiss Post is now analysing the results and will use them to derive measures.
