FM Verzollung opens new inland customs office for trucks

Press release dated 28.07.2009

On the way from Italy to the greater Zurich area and central Switzerland, forwarders are now able to use a new inland customs office located on the motorway itself. FM Verzollung, a subsidiary of Swiss Post, has opened a new office in Seewen (Canton Schwyz), which assures that goods arriving from Italy reach their destination even faster.

With its new office in Seewen, FM Verzollung offers forwarding companies on the north-south route rapid access to markets in central Switzerland and Zurich. Conversely, export customs clearance for consignments leaving Switzerland can also be handled in Seewen, enabling trucks immediate access to cross-border customs with validated transit documents. Waiting times at the border will thus be reduced in both directions. Because of Seewen’s central location, forwarding times will be lessened and heavy goods vehicle taxes will be lowered.

The Seewen office is the fifth inland customs office for clearing trucks through customs, operated by FM Verzollung, a unit of Swiss Post International Logistics Ltd.. To date, goods for import and export could already be cleared through customs in Aarau, Chiasso/Balerna, Basel Wolf and Basel transshipment station. FM Verzollung, which currently employs 40 staff, also plans to open an office in eastern Switzerland in the future.
