«pro clima»-Shipment: Swiss Post offsets the CO2 emissions of letters and parcels

Swiss Post customers can mail letters and parcels in a climate-neutral way by paying a small «pro clima» surcharge. Swiss Post invests the «pro clima»-Shipment surcharges entirely in climate protection projects with the highest standards. These projects could not have been implemented without this additional financing.

Swiss climate protection project

2011/2012, in addition to an international compensation project, a Swiss project that produces biogas on farms will be supported for the first time:

Eco-electricity from a Swiss farm

This project reduces harmful greenhouse gases and promotes the use of reusable energy for electricity and heat. In conventional farms, the harmful greenhouse gas methane escapes freely into the atmosphere as a result of the storage of liquid manure and dung. With the help of biogas plants, clean electricity is generated on farms in Switzerland. The project meets the guidelines of the Swiss Environment Office (BAFU) for domestic compensation projects.

Winner of the online vote 2012

In the Internet vote for the international gold standard climate protection project, which ran from 16 to 31 January 2012, the winner, with 49% of the total number of 13’282 votes was the Çatalca Wind Power Project in Turkey. Second place went to the project Efficient cooking stoves for Ghana with 46% of the votes while third place was awarded to the project Household scale bio-degesters in Cambodia with 5% of the votes.

Çatalca Wind Power Project in Turkey

The Catalca wind farm generates clean electricity and feeds it into the public grid, a sustainable response to Turkey’s energy needs. Using wind power, a renewable energy source and a technology with low environmental impact, the project contributes to climate protection in the province of Istanbul.

The CO2 emissions of the «pro clima»-Shipment service will be offset by the following climate protection projects:
