Energy-efficient logistics
Optimized transport runs: saving on energy and costsOn account of its transport services in particular, Swiss Post is aware of its ecological responsibility. It is increasing its energy efficiency: through intelligent transportation planning, energy-saving driving techniques and the use of innovative, economical drive systems.
Wherever letters, parcels and goods are transported, energy is consumed. CO2 emissions are produced, contributing to climate change. Through energy-efficient logistics, Swiss Post has already reduced its CO2 emissions substantially.
Intelligent transportation planning
When transporting items by road, we optimize processes so that we avoid empty runs. We are raising capacity utilization and tailoring the size of the vehicles to their cargo.
Modern vehicle fleet
For large cargoes, Swiss Post uses around 30 new double-decker trucks. These have a load capacity that is 50 percent higher than that of trucks with semi-trailers. The number of journeys is minimized. This reduces emissions by around 35 tonnes of CO2 per semi-trailer truck and year.
Saving on fuel
On courses, our drivers learn "eco-driving techniques" aimed at reducing fuel consumption, wear and tear, and CO2 emissions. Environmentally-friendly eco-driving techniques involve smooth acceleration, anticipation and consistent driving. Because Swiss Post employees also use eco-driving techniques in their own personal vehicles, they are contributing to an additional reduction in CO2 emissions.
We fit all new vehicles weighing a total of over 3.5 tonnes with a device to measure fuel consumption. This enables drivers to adapt the way they drive and save on fuel.
